Guyana stays unbeaten in CWI U-19 One Days

Guyana made it four from four last Saturday, in the Cricket West Indies Under-19 One Day competition, at the Sion Hill Playing Field here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Facing the previous unbeaten Barbados, Guyana came up trumps in a low scoring affair.

The Guyanese bowlers, Joshua James (3 for 20), Kevin Sinclair (3 for 21), and Kelvon Umroa (2 for 10), combined to dismiss Barbados for 80 in 25 overs.

But Guyana made heavy weather of the response, crossing the line at 81 for 7 from 29.5 overs.

Shemar Persaud bagged 5 for 19 and Camarie Boyce, 2 for 29, but Guyana won by three wickets.

Guyana had extended their streak of victories, beating the Leewards by 114 runs on Thursday at Cumberland.

Guyana posted 215 for 8 from their 50 overs, with Javid Karim scoring 39, Joshua Persaud, 37, Junior Sinclair, 36, which, along with 32 extras, were the main contributers to the total.

Elroy Francis took 3 for 25, and Javin Spencer, 2 for 41, bowling for the Leewards, whose response was 101.

Zawandi White hit 53, while Joshua Jones had 3 for 30, Kevin Sinclair, 3 for 17, and Qumar Torrington, 2 for 26.

Also on Thursday, Barbados had a comfortable eight-wicket win over Canada yesterday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Canada, on the back of Randhir Sandhu’s 42 and Benjamin Calitz’s 36 and 33 extras, made 175 all out in 45.3 overs.

Bowling for Barbados, Joshua Bishop took 4 for 28, Camarie Boyce, 3 for 28 and Nyeem Young, 2 for 23.

Mekhail Marshall stroked 58, Antonio Morris, 54 not out, and Nicos Reifer, 35 not out, piloted Barbados to 176 for 2.

Meanwhile, the Windwards, who had a bye on Saturday, were clipped by Trinidad and Tobago by 114 runs on Thursday at Park Hill

Trinidad and Tobago scored 219 all out from 50 overs. Nathaniel Mc David scored 44, Avinash Mahabirsinghn, 39 and there were 35 extras to the good.

Shermill Lewis took 4 for 54, and Daneal Dupigny, 3 for 28.

The Windwards were bundled for 105 in 27.3 overs. Micha Joseph- 25.

Bowling for T & T, Joshua James took 4 for 34, Justyn Gangoo, 3 for 16, and Jayden Seales, 2 for 16.

Trinidad and Tobago returned to the Park Hill venue, to inflict a ten-wicket win on Canada.

Cephas Cooper scored 71 not out and Navin Bidaisee, 67 not out, saw Trinidad and Tobago to 156 for 0 in 31.2 overs, in reply to Canada’s 155 all out in 37.1 overs.

In the Canadians’ innings, Kavian Naresh stroked 50 and Raqib Shanesudeen, 34, while Jayden Seales, 4 for 40, Avin Mahabirsingh, 3 for 6, and Joshua James, 3 for 37, were the successful bowlers for Trinidad and Tobago.

And, Jamaica got a seven-wicket win over the Leewards at Arnos Vale on Thursday.

Zawandi White, with 51, topscored in the Leewards’ total of 108 all out in 39.5 overs.

Sanjay Williams took 2 for 13, Kirk Mc Kenzie, 2 for 15 and Andre Blake, 2 for 22, and were the main wicket-takers for Jamaica.

Bryan Brown, 33, led Jamaica’s reply of 109 for 3. Elroy Francis picked up 2 for 38, bowling for the Leewards.

The tournament concludes on Wednesday.
