SVGFF mourns with JFF over Burrell’s death

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs has expressed sadness on the passing of Captain Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

Reports say Captain Burrell, a veteran football administrator, passed peacefully in hospital in the United States, following a year-long battle with cancer. He was 67.

President Coombs lauded the late JFF boss for his initiative in helping to restructure and develop football in Jamaica and the region, by extension.

Coombs said the returns from Burrell’s programmes were evident when he made history in leading Jamaica, the first English speaking Caribbean country, to a World Cup final in France in 1998.

Coombs said that Captain Burrell, a businessman of some success, also invested thousands of his personal monies in helping to move the sport forward in his country, which was an obvious sign of his commitment.

The president said that efforts will be made to have the SVGFF represented at the funeral, whenever it is held.
