Make crime prevention a Carnival priority – Police Officer(+Video)
Executive member of the Crime Prevention Unit, Station Sergeant Steven Billy, is urging citizens and visitors to make safety their top priority as St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) prepares for the busy weekend of the 2026 Carnival celebrations.
Billy made the appeal in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Friday, June 26, 2026, at a public exhibition hosted as part of Crime Prevention Week.
The initiative, which is held twice annually- during the Carnival season and again at Christmas- aims to educate the public on practical ways to reduce crime and protect themselves.
This year’s exhibition was held under the theme, ‘Creating a Culture of Safety and Responsibility’.
“We are here to bring information and tips as to how all Vincentians and visitors alike can be safe and remain safe during this carnival season and beyond,” Station Sergeant Billy said. He explained that while carnival is a time of celebration, it is also a period when certain offences tend to increase, making public awareness and individual responsibility especially important.
