11 to battle Madzzart for Kaiso crown
Reigning Calypso Monarch Reon ‘Madzzart’ Primus is ready to hit the stage come Sunday night, July 5, 2026 in the Dimanche Gras, at Carnival City, to defend the crown he won in 2024, and again in 2025.
Madzzart, while being very tight-lipped about his performance, told SEARCHLIGHT that he plans to “give people a show”.
” I am putting on a memorable show, just like I did for the past two years. I am making every effort to make it as much, or even more memorable than before,” said the defending calypso monarch who had to pull out of the Soca competition because of a busted left shoulder sustained when he fell off the stage at Independence Park w while performing at the Calypso semi-finals.
“I plan to make sure that the song is translated, that people understand what I’m doing on stage and appreciate it and be impressed and be wowed,” Madzzart promised.
The defending monarch said he has been working with his production manager to ensure a well-executed performance as he emphasised the importance of preparation and presentation. He is not under-rating his opponents and is expecting the other calypsonians to be very competitive, but, “I’m expecting to outcompete them”, he said.
