Rotary Club South rehabilitates Occupational Therapy Facility at Mental Health Centre
People in St Vincent and the Grenadines who have been warded at the Mental Health Centre in Glen, will now enjoy a refurbished Occupational Therapy Unit (OTU) which includes a wide range of occupational and recreational stimulation supplies, thanks to the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South.
The handover was done at the institution itself on June 30, 2026 with numerous members of the Rotary Club and the Ministry of Health in attendance.
Senior Nursing Officer of Mental Health Services Kayashma Charles, who gave brief remarks at the event, said that it was a privilege for her to be part of the handing over of the refurbished OTU.
“This occasion represents another important milestone in the continued advancement in the mental health services in St Vincent and the Grenadines.”
Charles said that since the establishment of the center in 1938, mental health care has evolved considerably over the years, including in how it is referred.
“The center has been called several things, including mental asylum and the Mental Health Center,”she said, adding that in 2015, during the tenure of a former senior nursing officer, the name Mental Health Rehabilitation Center was promoted and introduced, reflecting a broader recovery of care.
