Controversial ‘Dual Citizenship’ Bills to amend the Constitution deferred again
Two controversial Bills, namely the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill 2026, and Constitution of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Amendment) Bill 2026, both of which were down for their first reading when Parliament convened on Thursday, July 2,
2026, have again been deferred.
The two Bills were first placed on the Order Paper for the April 21, 2026 sitting of Parliament, but were not tabled. When that was done, Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, promised that there would be consultations before the Bills were reintroduced for parliamentary debate.
However, the Order Paper for the July 2, 2026 sitting, again listed the two Bills for first reading. The promised consultations have not yet taken place.
