Having to contend with partisan support from the home crowd at the Richland Park Playing Field, commonly called âThe Ovalâ, Outa Trouble had to depend on nerves at the penalty spot to lift the title.
Pride and Joy One sped out to a three-nil lead at the half way mark, but Outa Trouble showed their mettle to erase the deficit, and go one better. However, a late goal from Pride and Joy One left the match level at 4-4, thus sending the final into kicks from the penalty spot.
More drama ensued as the kicks were levelled 4-4 after the first round, with each team missing one.
The sudden death kicks were even more thrilling, as it took the third round of kicks for Outa Trouble to finally score, as both teams had muffed their previous kicks.
Providing the goals in regulation play for Outa Trouble were Jarel Mc Mc Master, Daniel Mc Master, Nazron Hoyte and Reginald Payne, while Nasroy Peters hit two for Pride and Joy One, with Orlando Trimmingham and Delroy Craigg getting the others.
For winning the title, Outa Trouble earned the championship trophy and $2,000, while Pride and Joy One collected $1,000 and a trophy, with third placed Tallawahs securing a trophy and $700.
Taking the top individual award was Outa Troubleâs Jarel Mc Master, who was named the competitionâs Most Valuable Player. Mc Master, a member of the SVG senior football team, also copped the trophy for most goals, as he netted 27 times. Adjudged best goalkeeper was Anthony Hazell of Pride and Joy One and his teammate Malden Scrubb, the best defender.
Also awarded were two promising players â Junior Hector and Malik Castello, with tokens of appreciation being presented to the ardent spectators.
The organizers also used the occasion to compensate match officials and ball boys for their input in the competition. The Valley Sports Committee oversaw the competition, which saw 13 teams participating.(RT)
