Another former national cricketer passes
Former Hairoun, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Windward Islands, and Windward and Leeward Islands batsman Ian Neverson was cremated last Friday in his adopted country, Trinidad and Tobago.{{more}}
Family sources here confirmed that Neverson died in Tunapuna, Trinidad on Monday, July 9, following a brief illness. Neverson was 75.
A right-handed opening batsman, Neverson was rated as one of the most accomplished batsmen in St Vincent and the Grenadines in the 1950s. He scored 90, not out, against Len Huttonâs Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team in a two-day match at Queenâs Park in Grenada on 6th and 8th March, 1954. The match was drawn with MCC scoring 205 for seven declared and 177 for three, and the Windward Islands scoring 194 in their only innings.
Neverson grew up in Rose Place, but later took up residence in Trinidad, where he played for Shanon.
Among his contemporaries were Owen âManningâ Jackson, Vincent âKillaâ Hadaway, and St Clair âRabbitâ Warner, among others.
