An honest ‘conversation’ with facts on the LGBT issue

EDITOR: While many Vincentians are joining the Prime Minister in his call on the churches to start the conversation on the LGBT issue, it seems like they want the conversation to include everything except the Bible’s principled stance on the matter. How ironic! The church’s position is built upon the scriptures. The advocates of the LGBT movement would also prefer if scientific facts about the practice are buried and ignored. For them, the conversation should go like this – “Homosexual, God loves you. All sin is sin and what you do in your bedroom is your business. Don’t bother with them who criticize your choice. They are bigots.”

Although those who offer real help to LGBT persons are often maligned as “intolerant”, “extremists”, “homophobic” and “haters”, the truth must be told. The Bible’s position must be given without compromise. Medical facts must be presented to show the danger of sodomite (same-sex) unions and the living results of legal acceptance of the practice cannot be disregarded.

Both in the First and Second Witness, the Bible shows God’s rejection of the practice of sodomy including His brimstone and fire judgement on five cities. “Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven… Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” ( Genesis 19: 24; Jude 1:7). God who is Love, does not destroy without warning and inviting sinners to change. Paul, in speaking to the Church at Corinth reminds them that they are changed from their former experiences which included sodomy – “…And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11. It is this same change that is needed today by the “abusers of themselves with mankind”. They must be first shown the sinfulness of their behaviour to receive conviction to hate it and to forsake it.

The danger of the practice of sodomy is also solidly substantiated by worldwide expert medical evidence. We remember Professor Brendan Bain who was fired by UWI in 2014 for providing facts in a court case in Belize on the prevalence of STDs and HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men (MSM), including the hazardous activities that these men engage in, such as felching. Among other things, Bain stated, “The public cost of these private behaviours must be acknowledged and actively reckoned with.” (Quoted in Studies in Political Sodomy by Nyron Medina and Anesia Baptiste). The Centres for Disease Control also admit that “ Prevalence of HIV among sexual partners of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men is 40 times that of sexual partners of heterosexual men” and that “receptive anal sex is 18 times more risky for HIV acquisition than receptive vaginal sex.”

The persecution of Dr. Bain by UWI, for his professional presentation and advice is only one example of the persecution faced by Christians and other conscientious persons who declare their position against homosexuality. Preachers in the United States of America, Europe and Canada are being arrested for stating that homosexuality is a sin and for calling persons away from it.

Business operators have been fined and otherwise persecuted for following their Christian conscience in refusing to use their private property to bake cakes for sodomites. Bathroom laws were enacted under President Obama allowing for big men pretending to be girls to enter female bathrooms. Nearer home, the dark forces are at work, through the United Nations and other organizations, for the removal of buggery laws in Caribbean countries including St. Vincent.

The false arguments that are pushed for the removal of these moral laws are gaining ground. Unfortunately, there are those who are not taking time to examine the truth. There are those who are unwisely sympathetic towards sodomites and their proponents and there are those who are downright haters of the Word of God and anything godly.

After honestly examining Bible position and the risks involved in such a perverted sexual choice, why would anyone fight for the removal of a law that says “Any person who commits buggery with any other person; commits buggery with an animal; or permits any person to commit buggery with him or her; is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for ten years” (Section 146 of the 1990 Criminal Code)? Why? Have we become so demoralized as a society, yet thinking we are progressive?
