Message of solidarity to the people of Dominica

On behalf of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Bridgetown and Kingstown, we offer our deepest sympathies to the entire community and our sisters and brothers in Dominica suffering the terrible effects of Tropical Storm Erika. That this is an act of nature has not lessened our deep shock and sadness. We pray that everyone affected will feel the comforting presence of God, who is always present and merciful.{{more}}

Dominica is a place where enduring faith has always prevailed and we ask you to join them in thoughtful prayer, ever mindful that God heals all wounds. We pray that God may grant strength and faith to all those agencies and first responders who are already assisting. Our church stands ready to assist. We ask you not only to pray for our suffering brothers and sisters in Dominica, but to stand in solidarity by offering whatever assistance the Lord makes possible. We are one Catholic Family and where any member hurts, we all hurt.

We have contacted Bishop Gabriel Malzaire, who is presently out of the diocese. As soon as he assesses the situation, he will tell us what they need. We will then work out the logistics of getting things on the island. We will keep you informed of ways to assist.

Remember God works for good for those who love and trust him. Let us be part of His work to restore hope for the people of Dominica.
