Farmer fined, bonded for stealing ginger

Everoy Cameron John, a 45-year-old farmer of Park Hill charged with handling stolen goods, was fined when he appeared at the Colonaire Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The police said investigations revealed that John, knowing or believing that a quantity of ginger was stolen, dishonestly received the goods for his own benefit on January 21,2025.

The ginger was the property of a 43-year-old farmer also of Park Hill.

When John appeared before the Colonaire Magistrate’s Court, he pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, and was fined EC$250 which must be paid by May 12, 2025. If he defaults, he will spend one month in prison.

Additionally, John was placed on a nine-month bond in the amount of EC$900. Failure to comply will result in him spending three months at His Majesty’s Prison. The court also made a restitution order requiring John to return the stolen ginger to the virtual complainant, his fellow villager.
