Seventy-three awards, including 21 National Scholarships to be presented at Schools Independence Rally
Seventy-three awards, including 21 National Scholarships, will be presented on Tuesday to graduates of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) who excelled in the 2022 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), and Associate Degree examinations.
This year, there are three times as many National Scholars as there were in 2021, and for the first time, one of the National Scholarships has been won by a student who pursued an associate degree programme at the SVGCC.
To be eligible for a five-year National Scholarship, valued at $600,000, students must obtain a minimum average of 80 per cent in three subjects, in addition to a pass in Communication Studies.
The most outstanding of the National Scholars will receive the Prime Minister’s award, which will entitle that person to $20,000 and a gold medal, in addition to the five-year scholarship.
This year, three students have tied for second place and they will each receive $10,000 in addition to five-year scholarships.
Seventeen students will receive three-year National Exhibition scholarships; one student who has gone past the qualifying age for a National Exhibition will also be granted a three-year scholarship as a special award.
Bursaries valued at $25,000 a year will be awarded to 34 students, among them a St Lucian graduate of the SVGCC.
These 73 awards to be announced on Tuesday are in addition to the over 900 tuition scholarships awarded by Government last month.
Assistance has also been provided by the Government to close to 200 other economically disadvantaged students in the form of grants or loans to make it possible for them to access university education.
The awards will be presented at the Schools Independence Rally which takes place on Tuesday, October 25 at the Victoria Park beginning at 9:00 am.
