Mirage pays tribute to ‘Becks’ as it marks 40 years in Mas
AS PREPARATIONS intensify for VincyMas 2026, Mirage Productions is combining tradition with innovation as it pays tribute to its late founder, while adapting to the rising cost of producing carnival costumes.
For this year’s presentation, the band has chosen a theme that honours its original owner, Lennox Frederick Gonsalves better known as “Becks”, whose contribution helped shape Mirage into one of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ longstanding carnival bands; Mirage celebrates 40 years of Mas production this year.
Long time band member Michael “Chickee” Alexis, said the costumes draw inspiration from some of the band’s earlier designs while incorporating modern styles and techniques. Speaking with SEARCHLIGHT on June 8, 2026, Alexis said “This year is basically a tribute to Becks; we are bringing back some old style in a modern setting.” Alexis, who has been involved with Mirage for the past 20 years, said although carnival costumes continue to evolve with new trends and designs, the band remains committed to maintaining the creativity and craftsmanship for which it has been known over the years.
