Digicel customers get free Facebook

Digicel SVG has officially launched Facebook Flex, a new service that allows all Digicel customers, both prepaid and postpaid access to the popular social media site Facebook without credit or a data plan.

A condensed version of Facebook, Facebook Flex allows customers to like, share and comment on posts, update their statuses and send and receive instant messages, without incurring data charges. {{more}}However, to access premium content like photos and videos, customers will be given the option to use their current data allotment, activate a data plan or browse using Digicel’s PayGo service.

“Digicel has been on a mission to ensure that people have access to affordable mobile communications, access to broadband and now access to Facebook Flex. This is part of our commitment to bridging the digital divide and the reason why we have developed this exclusive partnership with Facebook,” said Digicel’s country manager John Davies.

He added that Digicel is very excited about the offerings of Facebook Flex.

Facebook Flex forms part of Facebook’s ‘Free Basics’ platform, which gives persons access to information from more than 40 zero-rated websites, such as Wikipedia.

Arturo Aldave, growth manager for Facebook for northern Latin America, said “Facebook Flex helps Vincentians who are not yet connected to the Internet to discover the value of connectivity and expand their access to knowledge and growth.”

Through the Digicel/Facebook partnership, every Digicel customer will be able to use the social networking site for free to get the latest information, find jobs, get help and stay connected with the people they love.
