Agape Methodist ‘After the Honeymoon’ stages next month

The Agape Methodist Dramatists will on Saturday, February 7, stage their first theatre production for 2015.

The play, dubbed ‘After the Honeymoon,’ will be held at Russell’s Auditorium at Stoney Ground and will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the show are currently on sale at $25 for early bird tickets, $30 for regular tickets and $40 at the door.{{more}} Tickets can be bought at LIME, Y De Lima, The Cell, Methodist Church Hall and Aeropost.

The play’s media launch was held at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown on January 13 and managing director of Agape Methodist Dramatists Kevin Roderiques revealed that ‘After the Honeymoon’ was written by Dominican Steve Hyacinth.

Kevin, who himself directed the play, said that the group first performed the play at the Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Theatre Arts Festival back in September 2014, but decided to do it again next month, because “a lot of persons did not get to see the production which is an excellent piece.”

The play has four characters, ‘Abigail’ played by Keisha Johnson, ‘Thomas’ played by Kaliym Woods, ‘Pudding’ played by Charlene Roderiques and ‘El’ played by Kevin Roderiques. It is centred around Thomas, a controlling husband who has adopted the ‘control freak’ mentality of his dead father and seeks to push that mentality on his wife ‘Abigail,’ who will have none of it.

On Tuesday, Johnson, who plays ‘Abigail’ described the piece as a production “filled with countless comical satirical moments that will make persons laugh,” while noting that apart from the comedic aspect of the play, there are a number of scenes that are thought-provoking, “and will hold you spellbound and provide you an opportunity to laugh at yourself.”

She added, “We guarantee you will be thrilled and amused and immensely entertained and at the same time we hope it will enable us to reflect on the larger message that is being imparted: always show your true colours. It is one for anyone who is in a relationship to see.”

Sponsors of the two-hour four-member cast event include NL sound and Vitamalt.

Kalique Cumberbatch of NL Sounds said that he was pleased to be part of the production. He said that his company is a small sound company that looks forward to teaming up with positive groups, “as part of giving back to the community.”

Meanwhile Kevin said that Agape has been around for 17 years and is one of the first theatre companies in the country that was able to put three of their stage plays on DVDs. He added that the group’s

main area of creativity is theatre production, but they have also produced dance pieces.

He added also that the group spreads the message of love through the use of the creative arts, while this year, they will partner with the Ministry of Health in an attempt to create mental health awareness.

“Come out and support us, because we have a lot in store,” said Roderiques.

Agape’s Nattisha Lorraine is the play’s production manager.
