GHS predicts perfect score for 2013 CSEC examinations
If all goes according to the statistics, the up and coming fifth forms of the Girlsâ High School could produce a 100% pass rate, when they sit the CSEC examinations next year.{{more}}
That is according to the Headmistress of the school Andrea Bowman, as she delivered the Headmistressâs Report at the schoolâs annual graduation ceremony, which took place last Thursday, June 21, at the Kingstown Methodist Church.
Bowman, addressing the graduating class of 2012, which was witnessed by the centenary graduates of 2011, past students, the faculty, and proud parents, including Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves and his wife in attendance, said the academic performance of the next generation of form five students leaves hope for a perfect score.
âOur 151 fourth formers recorded a 96% pass rate at the end of the first termâ¦. Four students recorded a record breaking 100% on their math exam….
âThis, of course, augurs well for their performance at CSEC 2013. Indeed, the overall performance of our fourth formers suggests that they may achieve the 100% pass rate from CSEC that eluded our centenary graduates.
âThese fourth formers recorded an overall 98.7% pass rate for this third termâs mark reading, and I expect all of them to be promoted to the fifth form,â Bowman added.
According to Bowman, the 120 strong graduating class of 2011 fell short of the mark, but did so in record style, gaining a 98.3% pass rate.
âMost of these girls had worked diligently since first form towards the 100% pass rate, since they were always aware that they would be our centenary graduates⦠they came very close to the goal.â
Bowman pointed out that the lasses were examined in 24 subject areas, recorded 100% passes in 14 disciplines, 99% in two (English A and English B), 98% in History, Chemistry and Biology, with the lowest pass rate being 60% for Visual Arts.
Former Headgirl River Providence earned CXCâs 2011 regional CSEC award for being top performer in the humanities, while last yearâs Valedictorian Kayrel Edwards received the nationâs top awards for the sciences, modern languages and business subjects.
Bowman indicated that she was anxiously awaiting the CSEC results of the current graduating class, based on the recent performances of the 128 students.
âThey recorded a 95% pass rate on their first termâs examâ¦. For mark readings during the second term, their overall pass rate was approximately 88%, and for their second term examination, their final examination before CSEC, they recorded an overall pass rate of 76.82 %.
âTwo of the six forms recorded pass rates of 91.5 % and 97.5%, while one form recorded a 57.6% pass rate; this inconsistency creates anxiety,â Bowman said. (JJ)
