Youlou Arts Foundation announces its 2012 Summer Arts Programs
The Youlou Arts Foundation has announced its 2012 Summer Arts Programs, including a booth at Junior Carnival, an Art Competition for primary school children,{{more}} an island-wide Childrenâs Art Fair, and four âGrowing Young St Vincent Artistsâ Visual Arts Programs and companion Teacher Training Workshops.
On Saturday June 30, during Junior Carnival, Youlou Arts will have a booth at Victoria Park. A release from the organization says they will distribute leaflets with information about the organization and its programs.
âWe will offer free mural painting to the public, as well as a face painting fundraiser to support the subsequent programming.â
Grade 2 primary school students were invited to participate in the Art Competition on the theme âMy Favourite Fruit Tree.â The children were encouraged to visually express what it is that makes their favourite tree special (i.e., the shapes, leaves, colours, eating the fruit from that tree, etc.). The submitted work was accepted in the following media: collage, drawing, painting, crayons and coloured pencils.
The deadline for submissions was yesterday, Thursday, May 31.
The 4th annual St Vincent Childrenâs Art Fair will be held on Saturday, July 21 from 2 â 6 p.m. at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Kingstown Park. Planned activities include jewelry and pottery making, volcanic rock, craft and face painting, and an array of games and activities including the popular Hula Hoop contest. Proceeds from the event will go toward the establishment of an Art Centre and Gallery in St Vincent.
âYoulou Arts is committed to offering art education to the children of St Vincent and the Grenadines by promoting excellence in the visual, performing and literary arts,â notes Saunders-Musser.
âWe do this through multiple activities throughout the year, with a major emphasis during the school summer vacation months.â
The island-wide Childrenâs Art Fair on July 21 forms a centerpiece for Teacher Training Workshops, scheduled for July 16 â 20 and Childrenâs Visual Arts Programs scheduled for July 23 â August 10. The Teacher Training Workshops and Visual Arts Programs, will be held in Kingstown and three outlying communities: Spring Village, Barrouallie, and Georgetown.
Registration forms for the âGrowing Young St Vincent Artistsâ Visual Arts Programs will be available after June 1.
