Browne, an employee of LIME, surpassed his five fellow competitors to secure the top trophy.

Claude Bascombe Jr. of Sol Group took the second place trophy, while Lesron Jacobs from The Buildings, Roads and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) settled for third. Browne also received trophies for winning in the Best Prepared Speech and Best Impromptu Speech Categories.

The competition took place at the Peace Memorial Hall on Tuesday.

The competition, according to Tamara Job Sprott, Communications Manager at VINCLEC, is the first external competition where other utility companies took part. The competition is one activity that formed a part of VINLEC’s safety month.

Giving brief remarks at the event, Dr Vaughn Lewis, Engineering Manager of VINLEC, stated that it is necessary that we pay attention to safety in our environment and that hard work must be done to make sure that persons do not become complacent where environmental safety is concerned.

All six participants spoke on the topic “Embracing Health and Safety for our Sustainability” in the prepared speech category, while Impromptu Speech topics included, “Danger”, “Fall protection”, “Driving Safety”, “Electric Shock” and “Emergency”, among others.

Other companies that took part were the Central Water and Sewerage Authority, E.T. Joshua Airport and VINLEC.(OS)
