This encouragement came from Chief Education Officer Louanne Gilchrist, as she made remarks at the First Spanish Book exhibition.

The exhibition is being held by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in St Vincent and the Grenadines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The launch of the exhibition took place at the National Public Library on Monday.

Venezuelan Ambassador Yoel Perez Marcano, also giving remarks at the launch of the exhibition, stated that the exhibition will promote the learning of Spanish and the culture of Latin American countries.

Marcano, who expressed thanks to the Ministry of Education and the National Public Library, added that he hopes to have a significant presence of Vincentian students and the general public by extension, attending the exhibition.

Gilchrist also mentioned that in an age of technology, the importance of text should not be slighted. The text on the page, she stated, cannot be replaced by the text on the screen.

She also encouraged students present to make reading, in whatever language, a part of their daily activity, further stating that reading enriches the mind.

The exhibition on Venezuelan Books will end today. The books can be viewed at the National Public Library.(OS)
