SVG Taekwondo Association joins in Earth Day celebration
More than one billion people in 192 countries took part in the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day.{{more}} Communities everywhere stood united in their effort in showing solidarity to the earth as the giver of life to all humanity.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Taekwondo Association (SVGTA) was part of this big event. On Friday, April 20, they were involved in a tree planting exercise in the Montreal Watershed in the Marriaqua Valley. This area is managed by the Forestry Department and is vital to the production of domestic water, which is consumed by approximately 40 per cent of the Vincentian public.
The tree planting exercise was done in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Forestry Department. The Department sees this initiative by the Taekwondo Association as a good one and encourages the involvement of civil society in protecting our nationâs fragile resources. PRO for the Association Cornelius Richards stated that the Taekwondo Association has adopted environmental service as a way to contribute to building St Vincent and the Grenadines and he calls upon our leaders to act now to embrace a sustainable future. He is also calling Vincentians to join this movement and to add their voices to the campaign to save the earth.
