Robert McBarnett, the grandson of former Spiritual Baptist Archbishop Percival Dick, journeyed home on his first charity mission to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Assisted by his wife, Sharon, he donated clothing, toiletries, novels, walkers, crutches and canes to these areas in what he described as an effort to âgive back somethingâ to his country.
He expressed gratitude to persons in New York who contributed items to the cause, explaining that he was overwhelmed by the response to his request.
âWhen I started this, I was doing it from my own pocket, but then when I asked other people to make donations, the items just kept coming, and we still have a lot of stuff in New York that we could not bring, so we will continue to this,â McBarnett said.
âI thank God for blessing me so that I can help to make a difference in the lives of others and I will be continuing to make my contribution.â
Among the donations were a paper dispenser, candle stand, pictures and a Bible to the St Matthias Spiritual Baptist Church in Dickson Village, which was started by his late grandfather; and paper towels and bathroom tissues to the St Maryâs Spiritual Baptist Church and Preschool at Overland.
Residents of the communities were happy and expressed gratitude to McBarnett for his kindness.
âWe thank God for him and ask that he continues to bless him so that he will continue to be a blessing to us,â one resident stated, while several others commented âYou doing a good job; God bless you; thank youâ.
McBarnett and his wife have already started to work on their next project that will see them focusing on children in these communities. He also plans to place more attention on the needs of persons who have disabilities and are in need of walkers, canes and wheelchairs.
