Teens learn of their impact on the environment

A group of teenagers will walk away this afternoon with a better understanding of their environment,{{more}} as the Soroptomist International wraps up its Youth Camp 2010.

The camp, which began on Monday, July 19, 2010, was held under the theme Our Environment is in Crisis. “Accept the Challenge; Secure the Future”.

Featured speaker at the opening ceremony, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Mobilization, Rosita Snagg, said that the environment is not just about the physical aspects, but it is affected by the youth themselves, their behaviour, dress and attitude.

The five-day camp included sessions on protecting the environment, conflict resolution, motivational talks, dance, drama, and arts and craft. Facilitators included Winsbert Quow of the Solid Waste Management Unit, Edmund Jackson of the Environmental Services Department of the Ministry of Health and the Environment, and Inspector Jonathan Nichols of the Police Public Relations Department.
