NYC, NCCP condemn upsurge in violence

A NUMBER of organizations here have condemned the recent upsurge in violence which has taken place over the last few weeks.

In press releases, the National Youth Council (NYC) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the National Commission on Crime Prevention (NCCP) have called on Vincentians to speak out against crime and violence as well as to assist the authorities with the investigations of crimes.{{more}}

Both organizations are also calling on persons to look out for their neighbors and become `our brother’s keeper’, in an effort to cultivate a culture of love and peace.

The NCCP in its release said that the commission “recognizes the continued acts of violence against women in this country” and stated that “persons affected by domestic violence are being encouraged to work it out and to seek help if they cannot do it by themselves.”

Meanwhile the NYC is encouraging youths to “join a uniformed organization, club or sports team.”

Both organizations believe that in order for us to have a peaceful society, Vincentians must come together and put a stop to the violence.
