Prosecutor calls temporary halt to Phillips murder case

After only two witnesses had testified in a preliminary inquiry into the murder of Kyle Phillips, senior prosecutor in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Adolphus Delpesche called a temporary halt to the case.

On Wednesday, after hearing{{more}} the testimonyof a pathologist, Delpesche told the the Serio us Offences Court that he would not call any further witnesses at that time, as he needed to speak with the the DPP on a matter and would like a short adjournment.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias allowed the adjournment and the case will resume today, Friday.

Lowmans Leeward residents Jason “2B” Henry, 31 and Rodney “P2” Roberts, 25, are charged with the murder of Kyle Phillips, also of the same address, on May 6, 2014.

It is alleged that at about 9 p.m., at Spring Village, Lowmans, Phillips sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and left hand, allegedly at the hands of two gunmen.

After being shot, the deceased ran to the home of friends close by, seeking assistance. Phillips was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The report of a post mortem examination showed that he died as a result of multiple gunshot injuries.

Besides the pathologist, Phillips’ mother, Mavis Phillips, was the other prosecution witness who testified.

Eighteen prosecution witnesses are expected to take the stand.

Henry is being represented by counsel Olin Dennie and Andreas Coombs, while Roberts is represented by Arthur Williams.(KW)
