Semi-finals battles loom in Sunday League cricket

The battle lines have been drawn in the National Lotteries Authority First Division Sunday League of the national cricket programme.

The line-ups set for this Sunday see the French Verandah SVG Community College taking on Ruddy’s Electrical Unique Warriors at Arnos Vale Two and at Arnos Vale One, Smashers will encounter Victors Two.

They advanced after last Sunday’s quarter-final clashes.

First timers, the SVG Community College continued their unbeaten run, with a hard fought 14-run win over Prime Consulting Marriaqua at the Stubbs Playing Field.

SVG Community College totalled 188 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Tijorn Pope stroked 58 and Dion Bynoe – 23.

Javil Harry grabbed 3 for 46 and Glenroy Jacobs – 2 for 38, bowling for Marriaqua.

In response, Marriaqua was well placed at 122 for 4, before they were reduced to 134 for 9. A spirited 10th wicket stand of 40 edged them closer to the 189, but they fell for 174 in 41.2 overs.

Ronique James – 42 and Jamali Wales – 28 were the top scorers for Marriaqua, while Jeremy Haywood grabbed 4 for 29 and Renaldo Franklyn took 2 for 35, bowling for the college students.

At Sion Hill, Unique Warriors overcame Radcliffe Too by 25 runs.

William “Bill” Edwards redeemed himself in the captaincy with a knock of 85 and Calvert Hooper chipped in with 29, to see Unique Warriors to 181 for 9 off 45 overs.

Bowling for Radcliffe Too, Mickron Mc Dowall picked up 3 for 54 and Kensley Joseph – 2 for 14.

Mickron Mc Dowall then scored 38 and Imran Smith – 34; but others did not contribute enough, as Radcliffe Too was dismissed for 156 in 31. 1 overs.

Edwards was the lead bowler for Unique Warriors, taking 3 for 7; Joseph Medford had 3 for 39 and Reginald Jeffrey – 2 for 49.

At Arnos Vale One, Victor Two stopped Police One by 54 runs.

Afram Byam – 29, Kishore Shallow – 25 and Jermaine Jardine – 24, along with a whopping 47 extras, helped Victors Two’s total of 168 for 9 from 38 overs.

Bowling for the law officers, Renford Samuel snared 3 for 33, Parnell Browne – 2 for 22 and Sylvan Spencer – 2 for 32.

Police One’s resistance ended at 114 in 24.3 overs. They were shackled by the bowling of Shamic Roberts – 3 for 17, Leon Quashie – 3 for 20 and Jenry Ollivierre – 2 for 27.

And, at Arnos Vale Two, Smashers earned a 17-run triumph over Combine Youths.

Smashers made 142 from 33.1 overs, with Romano Charles making 27 and Deptor Culzac – 25.

For Combine Youths, Javid Cordice grabbed 4 for 30; Marlon Farrell – 2 for 30 and Jeron Wyllie – 2 for 31.

Combine Youths, despite Oneal Endeavour’s 47, fell short, dismissed for 125 off 27.5 overs.

Javid Harry and Javon Samuel took 4 for 41 and 4 for 42, respectively, bowling for Smashers.(RT)
