Hope International recognizes past, present contributors

National premier division champion Guardian General Hope International last Tuesday night commemorated its 20th anniversary with a cocktail and awards ceremony at the Haddon Hotel.

On the night, the club recognized ardent supporter Randolph Bartholomew, who is known to be one of the first persons to be present at all the matches, through “rain and sun”.

Also acknowledged for their initial input in fashioning the club were Nichola Lewis of former title sponsors Nemwil and first financial contributor Reynold Hope of Hope Construction of Belair.

It was from the latter’s early contribution that the club derived its name.

Meanwhile, Fitzroy Shallow was rewarded for his dedication to the club and Marlon “Tusty” James for exploits professionally.

Shallow was cited as one who has moved through the ranks from the first division outfit to a fixture on the premier team.

He was rewarded for his regular attendance at the club’s training sessions, as well as one whom management had over the years had to reprimand for disciplinary matters.

James, who joined the club in 1999, has plied his trade professionally in Trinidad and Tobago, Portugal, Canada and Malaysia.

Presentation of plaques on behalf of James Lewis, whose brainchild was the establishment of the club and the club’s first coach Gary Thomas (1997 to 2007) were also made.

Lewis and Thomas are residing in Canada and the USA, respectively.(RT)
