Two Vincentian cyclists place fourth in Anguilla outing
Orano Andrews placed fourth in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) championships and Cammie Adams finished in the same position in the John T Memorial event to provide the best returns for St Vincent and the Grenadines cyclists at last weekendâs outing in Anguilla.{{more}}
In the OECS event on Friday, Andrewsâ time of 2 hours 25 minutes 30.98 seconds saw him trailing three Antiguans â Andre Simon, Jyme Bridges and Joel Phillips in that order, as they repeated a clean sweep at the podium.
Simonâs winning time in the 53 mile race was 2 hours 22 minutes 36.03 seconds, while Bridgeâs second place was 2 hours 25 minutes 21.78 seconds and third placed Phillip clocked 2 hours 25 minutes 21.82 seconds.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, in the longer John T Memorial race of 83.5 miles, Adamsâ timing was 3 hours 52 minutes 42.51 seconds, with Andrews, who reports say was involved in an accident which slowed down his progress, ending in 12th place, in a time of 3 hours 56 minutes 40.23 seconds.
Adams also attained 12th place in the OECS championships on Friday, when he did 2 hours 30 minutes 42.47 seconds.
The other Vincentians in the two races were Lucky Antrobus, Zefal Bailey and Enroy Lewis.
At the OECS championships, Antrobus ended in ninth position, returning a time of 2 hours 27 minutes 59.71 seconds, while Bailey clocked 2 hours 35 minutes 10.03 seconds and was 18th.
And, Lewisâ 2 hours 44 minutes 7.15 seconds, put him 20th overall of the 22 finishers.
In the John T Memorial, Bailey clocked 3 hours 55 minutes 58.74 seconds, to take the 10th place; Antrobus was 15th in 4 hours 06 minutes 13.25 seconds and Lewis â 21st in 4 hours 21 minutes 25.64 seconds.
Sundayâs race was won by Antiguan Jyme Bridges in 3 hours 48 minutes 52.32 seconds, with fellow Antiguan Andre Simon, second, in 3 hours 48 minutes 52.46 seconds.
Copping the third place was Russell Elcock of Barbados, in 3 hours 49 minutes 46.65 seconds.
St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia and host Anguilla participated in the OECS championships,
Nine territories â Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, French St Martin and St Vincent and the Grenadines â contested the 15th edition of the John T Memorial.(RT)
