Clinchers Softball Cricket Competition stages first week of action

Last weekend saw the first set of competitive matches in this year’s edition of the Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers Softball Cricket Competition at the Richland Park Oval.{{more}}

Taking honours were Sion Hill Tallawahs, Young Strikers, Nice Radio Clinchers, Hot Boyz and Country Meets Town Outa Trouble.

In the opening salvo on Saturday, Sion Hill Tallawahs beat Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem by two wickets.

Nar Fren Dem scored 66 in 15.1 overs, to which Sion Hill Tallawahs replied with 67 for 8 in 13.5 overs.

Also on Saturday, Young Strikers saw off Glen United by 101 runs in a rain affected match.

Batting first, Young Strikers reached 127 for 4 in 12 overs; Daverson Baptiste belted 56, made up of eight sixes and a pair of fours.

Glen United were then held hostage at 26 for 6, from their 12 overs.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Nice Radio Clinchers defeated Smashers by five wickets.

Smashers’ top scorer was Kazim Hazelwood with 35, as his team got to 115 all out in their 20 overs. Bowling for Clinchers, Donwell Hector had 3 for 15 and Okeefe Joseph 3 for 18.

Clinchers responded with 119 for 5 in 16.1 overs; Curlan Joseph made 46 and Okeiph Andrews 26.

Also Hot Boyz squeezed past Fully Loaded Ballerz by nine runs.

Hot Boyz got up to 112 for 8 in 20 overs, with Convill Caine hitting 26.

But Fully Loaded Ballerz’s reply stopped at 103 for 4.

And Country Meets Town Outa Trouble handed Better Brand Supreme a 59-run defeat in a rain affected match.

Country Meets Town Outa Trouble scored 119 for 2 in 12 overs.

Eventual Player of the Week Riche Richards led the way with 68, as he blasted seven sixes and four fours.

At their turn, Better Brands Supreme were restricted to 60 for 5 from their 12 overs.
