Best known for her exploits on the road, Daniel last represented St Vincent and the Grenadines in the NACAC 10 km finale, held here in December last year when she placed fourth in 43 minutes 54.04 seconds.
Before that, she had journeyed to Guadeloupe in November, along with Pamenos Ballantyne, for a race there.
Daniel, the mother of one boy child, was in her early 40âs. She ran for several local clubs, including Sion Hill and X- Cel, and emerged as this countryâs top female distance runner, after the departure from the scene of Adelaide Carrington some years ago.
Daniel ruled the female open and veteransâ divisions of the annual road racing calendar, notching up wins year after year.
Vice president of Team Athletics SVG Leroy Llewellyn expressed sadness at the passing of Daniel, whom he described as an individual who always wanted to do her best whenever she represented St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Meanwhile, Cornel Cambridge, a committee member who was the manager/coach for Danielâs last outing to Guadeloupe, remembered her as a person who never stopped until she was satisfied.
Cambridge said that after Danielâs experience in Guadeloupe, she vowed to train harder, therefore forging a training partnership with Pamenos Ballantyne, during the latter part of last year.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, in expressing sympathy on Danielâs passing, observed one minuteâs silence, prior to the start of the female final of the National Community League football competition, last Sunday at the Victoria Park, between South Leeward and East Kingstown.
Regarded as a work horse on the football field, Daniel, who hailed from the South Leeward area, was given another note of respect, when the members of the South Leeward Under-17 team sported black arm bands, during the final with Barrouallie.(RT)
