Magistrate lectures man whose father and uncle were murdered
Chief Magistrate Colin John, this week used an opportunity provided by the Serious Offences Court (SOC) to give advice to a man whose father and uncle were shot and killed in separate very public incidents.
On Tuesday, July 21, 2026 Dakari Hector, a 21-year-old resident of Paul’s Avenue, made his third appearance at the SOC on charges of having in his possession, seven grammes of cocaine with intent to supply, and possession for the purpose of drug trafficking.
Hector was caught with the drug on March 23, 2026, and when he appeared before the SOC on March 24, 2026, he pleaded not guilty and was granted EC$4,000 bail. However, when he returned to court on July 21, 2026 he pleaded guilty.
After going through the sentencing guidelines, the magistrate fined Hector EC$380 on the possession charge. The trafficking charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.
Following this, the chief magistrate said he thought it was a good opportunity to speak to Hector about his behaviour, which was evident by his guilty plea.
