TD wants a goal scorer

Technical Director employed by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Sammy Carrington, has expressed the need for this country’s Senior Football team, to have a natural goal scorer.{{more}}

Carrington made that point to SEARCHLIGHT last Sunday evening at the Victoria Park, following his team’s goalless draw in the second of two friendly internationals against Grenada.

“We need some one to put away the goals,” Carrington said.

“We are getting the opportunities and we are not putting them away,” Carrington, who plays the double duties as the team’s coach, said.

Carrington thinks that the players are not exercising enough patience when they get to the opponents’ goal area.

However, he is not perturbed that his team did not score a single goal, as the first match last Friday evening, played at the same venue; saw the visitors wining one nil.

“I am pleased with the way we are playing and developing, as we play more games we are going to get better,” Carrington projected.

“I like to judge a team from week to week,” the Technical Director stated.

“It is there we know if the players understand the system,” Carrington said.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is preparing to host Group B of the Digicel Caribbean Cup next month, where they will face Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis and Barbados.

“I have told the federation that we need eight matches before the tournament, and this one was the third, we are getting the confidence, and if we get the games, we will be ready for the Digicel competition,” Carrington added.

Before meeting Grenada, the Vincentians had a 5-1 triumph over St. Lucia in St. Lucia, the previous weekend.

Carrington disclosed that the Vincentians should be travelling to Grenada to engage them in a reciprocal visit.

This, Carrington believes, will help him to see more players.

“We are looking for some players outside and with them we should be at full strength,” Carrington said.

In last weekend’s encounters, Canada based Cornelius Stewart appeared in both matches, while Marlon James, who was with the Vancouver White Caps, was on the bench in Friday’s match.

Expected to come in for the October 6 to 10 engagements, should be Shandell Samuel and New York based Seinard Bowens.(RT)
