Quammie looking for the hat-trick

When the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union stages its next road race event on February 22, Albert Quammie will be looking to make it three straight.

Quammie last Sunday notched up his second win, beating all before him in the race, which was contested from Villa to Casson Hill.{{more}}

The nation’s No.2 cyclist turned out to be No.1, as he won in a time of in 8 mins 18.40 secs. He previously won the first event staged January 25.

But it was a case of the Bailey brothers’ dominance in the Junior, Juvenile and Tiny Mites categories.

Shimano topped the Juniors in 8 mins, 21.49 secs. His younger sibling Mavic was the winner in the Juvenile segment in 10 mins, 30.90 secs, and Zephal took the Tiny Mites in 11 mins 07.18 secs.

Taking the second spot in the Juniors was Kacey De Freitas in 8 mins 29.49 secs , with Lucky Antrobus riding in third in 8 mins 44.99 secs.

Veteran rider Peter Durrant was first in the veterans segment. He finished the race in 9 mins 8.71 secs.

The other competitor was Oral Johnson. His time was 11 mins 18. 43 secs.

Alex Davis took the BMX category . He outrode his other challenger to win in 12 mins 12.55 secs. Zimron Audain was the other winner, when he copped the Mountain Bike segment.

The race was sponsored by Gitts Supermarket.

Nineteen cyclists faced the starter’s orders, but a larger field is expected next weekend, when the event heads to the east coast to finish at King’s Hill. (RT)
