Although winning by a single strike from the penalty spot, System 3 looked the part and dominated their archrival NEMWIL Hope International.
A first half spot kick converted by Norrell George in the 30th minute secured System 3âs title. It was the third successive triumph over Hope in a final. System 3 handed Hope consecutive defeats in the Pepsi Sion Hill League in 2004 and 2005.
The two have contested five premier division finals with Hope coming out on top on the first two deciders.
Sundayâs win underlined System 3âs structure as most of the players who appeared on the pitch at the Campden Park playing field came through the various age levels of the club.
Even though the match did not live up to expectations, it had moments of brilliance.
Notable absent from last Sundayâs final was the highly paid technical director Zoran Vranes who missed out on seeing many of his national under-23 players in competitive action ahead of their Olympic qualifiers in September.
Some who made their mark in Sundayâs encounter were George who was adjudged player of the final, Milan Prescott, Thaddeus Velox, Seinard Bowens, Michael Trimmingham and Cornelius Stewart. They were in System 3âs corner and combined to keep Hopeâs blunt attack at bay.
It was a smiling Sardine at the end of the match who lauded his youth development programme for his clubâs continued achievements.
Hope on the other hand licked their wounds, and will have to go back to the drawing board to assess their methodology in getting players coming through.
And it was System 3 which took most of the awards at the presentation ceremony that followed.
Azhino Solomon of System 3 was the top goal scorer in the under-13 division knocking in 10 goals. Jerand De Roche also of System 3 took the award for his 7 goals in the under-17 category.
Roy Marshallâs 12 goals were the top in the first division. Marshall played for Jebelle over 35. George secured the award in the premier division with 5 strikes.
Mikey Francis of first division winner Ridge View Construction won the player of the final award. The most promising player was Kemron Walker of Campdonia Chelsea under-13 team.
The best dressed team was Simple Trouble. Last Sundayâs ceremony was addressed by president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football, Federation St. Clair Leacock who donated several of the awards on behalf of his executive.
Forty teams participated in the league.
