Son jailed for illegal gun and ammo possession; charges against parents withdrawn
A Union Island couple witnessed their son being sentenced to prison for 36 months after the family was initially charged with illegally possessing one Glock pistol, and 35 rounds of ammunition at their home.
Rasheed Froget, 23; Dexter Froget, 65; and Josephine Jones, 62; appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Colin John, on June 8,2026, where they were charged that on June 6, 2026 at Ashton, Union Island they had in their possession 35 rounds of .9mm ammunition, one Glock pistol without a license issued under the Firearms Act.
Dexter and Josephine pleaded not guilty; both charges against them were withdrawn. However, their son pleaded guilty to the offences and the facts were subsequently read.
The facts are that on the date in question between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., the Union Island police received certain information and obtained a search warrant in Dexter Froget’s name.
A team of police officers then headed to Dexter’s home at Ashton, Union Island where they first met Josephine Jones, and asked her about his whereabouts.
Before she could respond, Dexter emerged from behind the house and was informed of the search warrant. Both Dexter and Josephine Jones consented to a search.
During the search, one Glock 17 pistol, bearing serial number BUND419, and 35 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in the bottom drawer of a chest of drawers in their son, Rasheed’s bedroom.
