Winning the battle for the subconscious
Editor: As we approach a new academic year, I once again call for alterations in the way we educate our children. No longer can we simply teach them, but we must indoctrinate them. We are in a competition for their minds with the likes of Mavado and Busy Signal. Our education targets the brain and the conscious, but the music targets the subconscious and this makes a world of difference.{{more}} The difference is that whatever is impressed on your mind can easily be erased, unlike what is impressed on the subconscious. When things are impressed on your subconscious, you even dream about them. We fail to realize that we are ultimately led by our subconscious.
We must place tremendous emphasis on music, sports and technology, similar to what is done for Maths, English and the others. I usually hear the complaints about curriculum time, but the curriculum is whatever you place on it. Subjects like religious education and singing should be replaced by additional periods of physical education, sports and short periods of meditation. This is to aid in spiritual development and not religious indoctrination.
It is rather unfortunate that we do not have frequent major sporting events for our children to attend. Consistently attending these noisy events leads the subconscious to believe that this is normal and causes the child to gravitate towards a similar environment, thus ultimately leading to the child taking sports seriously.
In addition, our children should be consistently listening to speeches from great leaders. The battle for the minds is truly on and this we cannot afford to lose.
