Special emphasis will be placed on decentralizing this year’s Fisherman’s Day activities
WITH FISHERMAN’S DAY approaching, the President of the National Fisherfolks Organization, Winsbert Harry, has highlighted the significance of the annual celebration and the important role it continues to play in communities across the country. Fisherman’s Day 2026 was officially launched on April 6, with organizers placing special emphasis on decentralizing activities this year in an effort to involve a wider cross-section of fishing communities nationwide.
Speaking with SEARCHLIGHT on Monday, April 4, 2026, Harry underscored the enduring popularity and cultural importance of Fisherman’s Day, noting that the event has consistently attracted strong public interest over the years. This year marks the 49th anniversary of the celebration, a milestone that reflects the longstanding tradition the event has within the fishing community and the wider public.
Given the importance of the occasion, Harry expressed the view that Fisherman’s Day deserves formal national recognition and should be permanently placed on the national calendar.
