Questelles Government triumphs in Primary Schools’ Literacy Competition

Laron Jones of the Questelles Government School is the winner of the Leo Club St Vincent 14th Annual Primary Schools’ Literacy Competition.{{more}}

Jones triumphed over seven others in the finals of the competition, which was held last Saturday, November 3, at the Methodist Church Hall.

As noted by head judge Shirley Crick, this year’s competition was of a very high standard, as all participants made a good showing of their respective schools.

Solange Compton of the Kingstown Preparatory School placed second and Tyrese Lewis of the Mustique Primary School, third.

St Mary’s R.C. School’s Denilson Browne was adjudged the winner of the Best Read Prepared Essay, with Mustique Primary winning the category Best Written Passage. Questelles Government won both the Best Read Spontaneous Passage and Best Answered Questions.

Among the prizes to the winners were: 1st Prize – A 16GB Apple Ipad 2; 2nd Prize – A Kindle Fire along with a US$50 Book Voucher; 3rd Prize – A Kindle Fire along with a US$25 Book Voucher.

The other five participants each received a Kindle. The Leo Club St Vincent received sponsorship this year from CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Central Water and Sewerage Authority, Jujube, Karib Cable, LIME, Multigraphics Services, RBTT Bank Caribbean Ltd, Rent and Drive, St Vincent Brewery Ltd, St Vincent Co-operative Bank Ltd, St Vincent Electricity Services Ltd, Unique Alliance and Willy’s Restaurant.
