Kayrel Edwards and Swana John of the GHS trounced the George Stephens Sr and Petit Bordel Secondary Schools into second and third place, respectively.
The girls, both fourth formers, told SEARCHLIGHT that they were pleased that they had been successful in winning the trophy for their school, especially because of the amount of effort that was put into preparing for the competition.
âI am very happy and overjoyed because we put in a lot of work,â Edwards said.
John added that she was ecstatic about the victory as she, too, acknowledged the hours put in by her and her teammate to prepare.
They attributed their success to the all round team effort of the support they received from their teachers, particularly their English and Math teachers and fellow classmates.
The final, which was held on May 20, was the culmination of the competition which began in March this year, with secondary schools across the country being placed into 6 zones.
Four schools were then selected for the final.
Students were quizzed in three subject categories: English, Mathematics and Vincentian History, with the objective of encouraging students to focus on these areas of study, according to Rotary Club Southâs President, Delia McDowall.
The George Stephens Sr Secondary was represented by Triston Gonsalves and Akiem Williams, while the Petit Bordel Secondary was represented by Atika Franklyn and Roland Connor.
The St Vincent Grammar School also made it to the finals but failed to show up for the competition.(DD)
