Vincentian awarded ‘Soldiers Medal’ in the Royal Army

A Vincentian man who began his training with the Royal Army only three months ago has been awarded at the end of his first phase of training.{{more}}

Churn Adams, of Campden Park, who began his training on February 9, 2010, follows his younger brother Cameron Adams who is a member of the Royal Navy.

Friday, May 14, 2010, represented the end of his Phase 1 training which culminated in a passing out parade, during which Churn was awarded “The Soldiers Medal”. This award is presented to the recruit selected by his peers for upholding the Army’s Core Values during the rigorous and demanding training of the past twelve weeks.

The values taught and upheld during phase one training are courage, both physical and moral; discipline of self and of the team; respect for others, by working for the greater good of all; integrity, including honesty, truthfulness and commitment; loyalty to family, friends and the army and selfless commitment, being willing to put others before themselves in all matters. The Soldiers medal is only awarded if an individual receives more than 50 per cent of the votes from his or her peers.

Churn was also awarded a Marksmanship badge for his performance on the shooting range during his training.
