Can Fest 2010 a success, say organizers
Despite the intermittent rain that threatened the Digicel Carib Beer Can Fest 2010, over 20,000 cans of food were collected at last Friday nightâs event.{{more}}
Can Fest, which has been in existence for the past four years, has become a staple in the Vincentian Christmas festivities, geared towards donating food items to several charities around the country.
Organizers of the event, R.O.K entertainment, headed by Kenton Ollivierre, Romaine Reid and Kamara Duncan, fielded a slate of top local performers.
Some of the nightâs performances came from âTurn me onâ sensation Kevin Lyttle; Road March King Raeon âMadzartâ Primus; Zoelah, and three time Soca Monarch Champion Gamal âSkinny Fabulousâ Doyle. Johnny Rebel, D Nice and AK, Shaqman, and Rocks Empire were among other local acts that took to the stage.
Doyle, with his usual vibrant energy, had the crowd going wild from the moment he set foot on stage. Doyle did not disappoint as he belted out some of his hit tunes, which had patrons partying hard in the mud.
Perhaps performer Shaqman was the highlight of the night, when he came on stage with two loaves of bread and started confessing his love for the bread through song.
Ollivierre said the turnout was not as great as in the past when they had brought Jamaican artistes such as Mr. Vegas, Assassin, Leftside and Anthony B. However, he believed, by all accounts, the show was still a success.
He disclosed that the organizers wanted to do something different this year, which would have involved local acts. âWe thought it was time to do a local line-up and promote our local artistes and let them demonstrate what they can do,â Olivierre noted.
He disclosed that all of the artistes performed for free.
Ollivierre thanked sponsors O.T. Tyres, Digicel, and Carib Beer for their support in helping to make Can Fest a success.
