Ivory and Steel Show a big hit!

The professional well tuned Digicel Rhythmix Steel Orchestra, conducted by the maestro Sean Sutherland, proved that classical European music could be fused beautifully with a Caribbean Mix.

This musical blend occurred in two memorable concerts on Wednesday, October 16 and Sunday 19, at the Peace Memorial Hall where patrons, for only $40, heard pieces from Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johan Sebastian Bach, Peter Iilyitch Tchaikovsky on pan and piano. {{more}}

The evening was also tastefully complemented with vocal renditions from Ragga Soca Monarch Shernelle “Skarpyon” Williams who showed his versatility by performing renditions from Brian Mc Knight, Bob Marley and his very own tune called “Looking Fine.”

The very pleased audience seemed to be in a trance as they soaked up the classics and at the end of each performance gave thunderous applause and standing ovations in appreciation.

The well dressed, beautifully timed steel orchestra flowed smoothly and filled the Peace Memorial Hall with the familiar classics, an indication that music has no boundaries and is indeed a universal language.

During the breaks mobile company Digicel who sponsored the orchestra gave away prizes, and representative Jerry George called for more classical music on radio.

He thanked persons such as veteran radio broadcasters Jean Duncan and Nina Maloney for what he described as the musical education he received on radio.

Digicel Rhythmix Steel Orchestra will be heading to Antigua soon for a performance.
