We must comfort the needy and keep hope alive

Once again, we are at that time of the year when we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, our Lord and our Saviour.

In this season of good will and good spirit, Vincentians who are well off and the not so poor tend to be more generous than at any other time during the year.{{more}}

However, this year, because of our declining economic and financial circumstances, there will be less to give and to share with the needy. As a result, we may give less than we normally do.

But our Lord loves a cheerful giver, and those who give should not cut back. They should make a greater sacrifice and continue to give to the poor.

We are all familiar with the biblical story of the widow and her mite. Remember our Lord’s exhortation. Many give of their abundance, but she gave all that she had, the lowly mite.

That is how we should celebrate the season and beyond. That is how we should celebrate the birthday of our Lord.

All of us without exception need to focus our minds much more on the word, the works and the life of Jesus. We must comfort the needy and keep hope alive to his glory.

To Vincentians at home and in the diaspora, including those Vincentians serving in the military of other countries in distant lands, have a Merry Christmas.
