Government focused on fixing sporting facilities
The government said it has prioritized upgrading infrastructure at sporting facilities in order to create opportunities for youths, sports men and sports women.
Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture, and Creative Industries Kaschaka Cupid said that one such recently refurbished facility is the Edinboro hard court that will create spaces for community interaction and engagement, which is essential for the youth.
“Our youths, if they have nothing to do at times, they can get very idle. So, this facility creates a safe space for them where they could engage, build relationships, and they could express themselves, not just on a sporting level, but also create an environment in which they could be leaders of our nation in the future,” Minister Cupid said.
The hard court is one of five community-based projects implemented under the Quick Impact Project Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states.
The Minister of Sports said that as it relates to Edinboro, lights were once installed there and at present, the government is experiencing challenges with fossil fuels because of the war in the Middle East. He noted that as part of government’s mandate, they want to ensure that facilities operate at a high efficiency level, so the goal is to use solar power.
He said also that several facilities throughout the nation that were established and developed are not adequately maintained so the government will be ensuring that these facilities are maintained so they could be utilized, and athletes can use them to optimize their true potential.
