Young Vincentian advocates for youth Empowerment
Young Vincentians possess the undeniable capacity to steer their nation’s future, but they urgently require dedicated structural platforms to effectively execute their work. This assertion was championed by 26- year- old Orr Miller, a young researcher and political science graduate from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus. Speaking on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Beachcombers Hotel, Miller addressed attendees as a featured speaker during the “Youth Take Wing, Taiwan Soars” Youth Diplomacy Forum.
The forum served as a bilateral interactive assembly during which a visiting delegation of Taiwanese youth ambassadors joined local Vincentian youth leaders for structural discussions. Their collaborative exchange focussed on youth diplomacy and its role in cross-cultural understanding, as well as strategies for incorporating young perspectives into national sustainable development.
During his address, Miller questioned what happens when young Vincentians decide that national development is their personal responsibility, and when they stop saying “someday” and start saying “right now”.
He said that this shift in mindset from waiting to acting is where real leadership begins.
“And it is where democracy becomes more than a system; it becomes a shared project.”
He highlighted that democracy is too often reduced merely to voting. Miller posited that true democracy demands much more than basic participation.
