Rivals eat up Saints

Defending RBTT Premier Division cricket champion, MVC Rivals, devoured Eat Rite Saints by an innings and four runs last weekend to rebound in their title chase.{{more}}

Rivals, on the back of 71 from Orlanzo Jackson, Roland Wilkinson, 50, and Harley Skerritt’s 37, posted 293 for 6, declared. Isaac Haywood was Saints’ best bowler with 2 for 41, and Leon Mc Allister, 2 for 94. Saints was bowled out for 150 in their first innings, with Jackson showing his all round ability, taking 5 for 48. Rodrigo Thomas hit 66, and Mc Allister 31. Batting a second time, Saints reached 139, with Thomas again top scoring with 36, and the evergreen Ted Roberts, 27. Jackson had another bucket of wickets, 6 for 51, to finish with match analysis of 11 for 99.

But it was not a good weekend for the youthful Digicel Neil Williams Academy, which came down to earth against Smashers. A first innings total of 173 by Smashers was the platform to push for full points. Kesrick Lewis made a topscore of 31, and Zane Edwards took 2 for 20. The Smashers bowlers went to work on the youngsters, as they were dismissed for 64, of which Allan Dee Ballantyne struck 38. Kareem Peters had figures of 5 for 6. And, asked to follow, fared better, scoring 158. Andy Baptiste made 37 and Devane Warner 30, as Lewis took 5 for 28.

Smashers attained full points as they got to 54 for 2.

CLICO A’Level College took first innings points over PKF Saints. The students batted first and made 173 all out. John Williams topping the batting with 57 and Kenroy Lewis, 42, were the main contributors. Nemon St. Hillaire had figures of 5 for 20 and Joe Horne, 2 for 28, bowling for PKF Saints, whose response was 96. Morrison Matthews bagged 5 for 23, Lorenzo Edwards, 2 for 22, and Ronjel Small, 2 for 23, to give A’Level College the upper hand.

National Under-19 player Small, then blasted 98, Elron Lewis, 53, and Kenroy Lewis, 36, as A’Level went ball beating to declare at 218 for 3, and gave Saints 295 to win in 50 overs. Saints held on to save the match at 182 for 8. Javed Cordice made 33, Rasheed David, 30, and Horne, 28, held up the students from going for full points.

Radcliffe Two gained first innings points over Belmont United. Belmont made 126, with Jamal Bradshaw making 35 and Augustus Mofford, 27. Kamon Green snared 3 for 18, Haniff King, 2 for 12, and Jabari Johnson, 2 for 23. Radcliffe erased that, to post 222, led by Verbert King’s 53, and Marcus Castello and Johnson both hit 31. Selwyn Caine, 4 for 33, and Jerome Samuel, 2 for 18, were the principal wicket takers for Belmont.

Batting a second time, Belmont was 204 for 8, when the match was called off. Caine topped the batting with 52, Orlando Mofford hit 48. Johnson helped himself to 3 for 52.

This weekend, Victors One plays Packers at Arnos Vale Two, in the pedestrian RBTT Premier Division.

At the Grammar School Playing Field, Radcliffe Two meets Smashers in the Bottlers First Division. In other First Division action, ASCO takes on Unique Warriors at Brighton and at North Union, PKF Saints engages Log Enterprises Masters. (RT)
