Jack slams a century

Stand-in national women’s cricket team captain Cordel Jack slammed a century to set the Dauphine Playing Field alight in one of last weekend’s fixtures of the C O Williams ASCO softball Cricket Competition.{{more}}

Jack’s innings of 103 was punctuated with 13 fours and 4 sixes, as she led her team, defending women’s champion United Survivors, to 198 for 6 off their 20 overs.

Judy Hunte was Good News’ best bowler, with 2 for 29. In reply, Good News bore bad tales as they were blasted out for 36 in 4.2 overs. Jenetta Diamond, 3 for 9, and Synthilia Ryan, 3 for 10, being the destroyers of the innings.

Also in the Female Division, Zees and Sons ASCO beat Ju-C Floranium Super Strikers by seven wickets. Super Strikers, batting first, reached 70 all out in 15 overs, aided by 23 extras conceded by ASCO.

Marcia Matthews, 3 for 6, Amanda Thorpe, 2 for 9, Jean Blutcher, 2 for 10 and Michelle Horne, 2 for 26, all combined to give their team the advantage.

Horne, 17 not out, and Blutcher, 15, were the main scorers, as ASCO reached the target of 74, losing three wickets in the process.

In the male division, which also saw action on the weekend, there were wins for the Simple Boys clan.

Simple Boys whipped C O Williams Cowboys by a whopping 107 runs. Simple Boys amassed 217 for 2 in their 20 overs. Calbert Simon struck 93 not out, and Lex Bute, 87. The Cowboys were restricted to 110 for 7, in their allotment of 20 overs. Cornelius John made 24. Eldon Morris took 2 for 21, bowling for Simple Boys.

Neither was 2 Simple Boys’ victory over Unda Dogs a complicated one. Unda Dogs, batting first, made 50 all out in just 10 ten overs. Travis Cumberbatch, 2 for 14, and Akims Questelles, 2 for 13, were the top bowlers for 2 Simple Boys.

In reply, 2 Simple Boys made 52 for 1, in 8.2 overs, with Elric Morris topscoring with 19 not out and Kesron O’ Brien making 15.

In another match in the Male Division, ASCO 2 defeated Progressive Youths by 41 runs. ASCO 2 made 90 all out in 12 overs. Nicos Davis led the way with 43. Akeem Layne bagged 2 for 8, bowling for Progressive Youths, but they did not make much progress batting wise, as their innings folded at 49. O’Neil Endeavour halted any advancement by the Progressive Youths’ batsmen, taking 5 for 12.

Five matches are scheduled for this weekend.

On Saturday, from 1:pm, ASCO 1 and ASCO 2 meet each other in the male division, to be followed by a Female Division match up between Good News RSVG Police from 3:15 .

On Sunday, the action gets going from 9:30 am, with Progressive Youths and 2 Simple Boys set for battle.

Then from 1:pm, it will be the turn of the females, as Clinchers and Super Strikes square off.

Simple Boys and Shot Callers cap off the weekend’s fixture in a Male Division encounter from 3:15.(RT)
