Victors One out front in Premier Cricket action

Victors One are leading the pack in the RBTT premier Division of the national cricket competition.

The power packed unit are on 40 points from their four matches.{{more}}

They added eight to their tally last weekend with a first innings victory over Spartans.

An allround performance by the promising Donwell Hector was the catalyst of Victors’ points.

Hector bagged 6 for 83 in Spartans’ first innings of 202, then struck 143 to see Victors to 354.

Spartans’ total was centred around Uzzah Pope’s 43 and 33 from the bat of Darnley Joseph. Assisting Hector in dismissing Stubbs based team were Norlan Williams 2 for 36 and Ronaldo Coombs 2 for 41.

Hector’s masterful ton was reinforced by Lauron Francois 54 and Williams’ 35.

Reynold Mc Lean 3 for 83, Nixon Mc Lean 2 for 77 and Krishna Da Silva 2 for 83 were Spartans’ main wicket takers.

At the close of the match Spartans were 61 for 3 batting a second time.

Chasing down Victors for title honours are current second place ECGC Radcliffe who took maximum points over defending champion Police Two.

Radcliffe led by 70 from Drumo Toney, Delroy Johnson 52 and Lynden James 43 reached 258 for 9 declared.

Police Two were then rattled out for 101, with Salvan Browne topscoring with 31. Dyke Cato 4 for 38 and Daniel Mc Millan did the demolition job for Radcliffe.

Forced to follow on, Police Two fared marginally better reaching 164 all out. Again Browne headed the list of batsmen with 42. Marlon John continuing to take handfuls bagged 6 for 54 and Dellorn Johnson 3 for 35. Requiring a mere eight to win, Radcliffe reached nine for no loss to push their points tally to 40.

And in a battle of the table clash, struggling Saints came out on top over Police One.

Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines middle order batsman Ted Roberts returning to the more competitive format of cricket answered the call with an allround effort.

First he took 7 for 37 and was the main architect of Police’s dismissal for 156, then he made topscored for Saints with 30 as they fell short by five runs out for 151. Again among the wickets, Roberts with 3 for 38 was the main wicket taker in Police’s repeat second innings score of 156. The father and son combination of Walford and Sunil Ambris took 2 for 35 and 2 for 17 respectively.

This set Saints requiring 163 for a come from behind win. This they did for the loss of four wickets. Rodrigo Thomas 61 and Felix Greaves 60 lay the platform for Saints’ outright win.

Maxian Richardson 37 and Uroy Farrell were Police’s first innings main contributors with the bat, with Randy Yorke topscoring with 35 in the second innings.

This pushed Saints to 24 points from four matches and fourth in the eight team race. Police Two, Police One and St. David’s are locked at the bottom on twelve points each, but with Police Two playing three matches, one fewer than the others.

Rivals on 20 points from two matches will be looking to extend their tally this weekend at the Sion Hill Playing Field when they meet St. David’s.

Front runners Victors One meet Police Two at Arnos Vale and Police One play Radcliffe at Stubbs as the competition gets more intense.
