Crime is a matter of choice
EDITOR: Crime is a matter of choice. Yes, we know that there are many contributing factors to crimes such as moral declension which speaks of the times in which we live. Amongst other contributing factors to crimes are poor family structure and practices, bad community influences and hardness of man’s heart, just to name a few.
However, we ought to appreciate the fact that crime is a choice by the individuals who commit them. We can be a bit empathetic with those who may commit crimes because of self defence. Nevertheless, they ought to be held responsible and as a result ought to face the consequences of their actions.
When we keep putting blame on other persons and things, then we are in a way excusing the persons who commit crimes. We are saying that they cannot help because of various reasons. Each individual, regardless to the circumstances which may result in a crime, ought to be held responsible and accountable.
Churches continue to spread the Gospel far and near, but many choose not to accept the word of God. It is a choice by any person to have a gun and so because of the gun crimes are committed. Therefore, it is the person’s choice. Many persons are bent on committing crimes and so regardless, those persons would commit crimes. So, it is a matter of choice.
Many persons chose to take revenge and so commit crimes, so, it is a matter of choice. I have known of many persons who have had a poor background at home and faced many challenges, but have risen above these circumstances and have become persons of integrity and high status.
I know that in the prisons there are many programmes where a prisoner can be part of and so rehabilitate, but yet many have chosen not to be part of the programmes, but instead decide to continue a life of crime.
Many persons chose not to be loving and not to give heed to word of the Lord ,and also many persons have chosen to reject counsel, help, and even listen to the Word of the Lord. So for many, whether they are in gangs or not have decided to be involved in crimes.
Let us continue to pray for our nation and most importantly our homes and communities.
