Vincentians urged to cover the nation on Monday’s National Day of Prayer

The Chair of the National Day of Prayer Committee is calling on Vincentians to cover the nation in prayer and “Watch God do what only he can do”.

On Monday, October 7, 2024 Vincentians are expected to be a bombard the Throne of God with prayers in schools, churches, workplaces, and on media platforms for the ‘Togetherness, Prosperity and Perseverance’ in the country.

A prayer village would also be set up at the car park of the Ministerial Building in Kingstown from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m where different churches, denominations, and schools would lead several prayer sessions, devotionals, and worship.

Churches would also open their doors to members of the community on Monday to pray.

Pastor Al Blake, who is the Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Committee, and the President of the Association of Evangelical Churches of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), told SEARCHLIGHT that prayer is a dependence on God plus faith, and is not dependent on how many people pray.

“It is dependent on the motive behind the prayer and the effectiveness of the prayers; so even though we haven’t seen a greater number of people coming out, we believe that it is less of the numbers and more of the power that comes behind the prayer.”

He said that ‘Togetherness’ is a focus for this year’s prayer sessions because the Bible talks about unity being strength.

“In terms of prosperity, we always want to see our nation growing economically,” he said.

Blake added that in light of what the nation has been through over the last few years, namely the volcanic eruption, Hurricane Beryl, COVID-19, and dengue fever, there is desire to see the country growing economically.

“The perseverance is that we want to be a nation that always pushes forward, that we persevere through our struggles, we persevere through our trials.”

The pastor said that the Bible speaks about trials being there as a next level to a person’s spiritual growth, but one must persevere through it.

“As we look around, our island has been through a lot and presently, we are going through a lot; but the Bible talks about blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

He said the Bible also talks about the church playing a spiritual and significant part in helping the country move forward. Pastor Blake also reminded that ‘the effective fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much’ and that is what the church plans to do on Monday.

“2 Chronicles 7:14- If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray, seek my face, turn from their wicked ways, then would I hear from Heaven, forgive their sins and heal their lands,” he quoted.

The pastor added that he is encouraged about what God will do in this nation. He is encouraging people to come out and cover the nation in prayer and “Watch God work. Watch God do what only He can do.”

He said that prayer is less about talking about it and more about doing it.
