Bickles tastes success at Chamber awards

Fast food chain Jamaica Bickle Ltd. was the toast of the evening when they were announced winners in two categories at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s inaugural Business Awards Ceremony.{{more}}

Nominated in four of the seven categories, Bickles as the restaurants are commonly known, took home the Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the People’s Choice Awards for Customer Service at the dinner and awards ceremony held at the Methodist Church Hall last Saturday, October 10th.

The locally owned business, which opened its doors in December 2007 with its unique brand, was also nominated in the Business Innovator of the Year category, but this was won by regionally acclaimed local agro-processor Erica’s Country Style. In the Business Excellence Award for Large Businesses, they had to make way for Mustique Company Ltd.

Also winning on the night was telecommunications giant LIME (SVG) Ltd, which took the Community Involvement Award, Fairview Guest House for Business Excellence Award (Small Business) and Cash Money Rentals – Business Excellence Awards (Medium Business).

Saturday’s ceremony also saw the induction of five Vincentians into the Chamber’s Hall of Fame.

In the Business Hall of Fame, businessmen Cecil Kenrick ‘CK’ Greaves and Sir Philip Henry Veira were posthumously recognized for their contribution to the development of this country’s economy.

Greaves’ award was received by his son Nigel, while Veira’s was accepted by ECGC General Manager Oswald Davy on behalf of the family.

Reginald DaSilva accepted his award for Lifetime Support to the Chamber, of which he has provided unwavering support as a member since 1975.

The other inductee, the late Arthur Connell, who was a member of the Chamber since the early 1960s, was also posthumously rewarded for his service. His award was accepted by his nephew Andrew Woodroffe on behalf of  the family.

Shirley Richards accepted the award on behalf of her father, the late educator Bertram ‘Timmy’ Richards for his service to National Development related to a priority area of the Chamber.

Richards was the longstanding principal of the Intermediate High School, which came to be known as “Timmy” school, and was involved in a number of other civic duties.

Saturday’s ceremony was the first of what the Chamber hopes to become an annual event on their calendar.
